Preparing for Your Headshot Session
Here are a few tips to help you look and feel your best for our upcoming photoshoot.
What to Wear
The key is to choose clothing that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Since we’ll be using a white or dark gray background, here are some wardrobe suggestions:
- Contrast is Key: For the white background, darker colors like navy blue, dark gray, or black create a strong, professional look. For the dark gray background, lighter or medium tones work wonderfully. Avoid wearing a color that’s too similar to the background.
- Solid Colors are Best: Solid colors are classic and keep the focus on you. Neutral tones (black, white, gray, beige, navy) and muted jewel tones (burgundy, dark green, deep purple) are excellent choices.
- Fit and Comfort: Wear something that fits you well and doesn’t feel restrictive. Discomfort can show in photos, so choose an outfit you feel great in.
- Keep it Simple: Avoid busy patterns, large logos, or distracting text. Simple, classic pieces photograph best and remain timeless. Consider bringing a couple of options if you’re unsure.
How to Prepare for the Shoot
A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring you get a headshot you love.
- Get a Good Night’s Sleep: Rest is one of the best ways to look fresh and energized.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the session. Hydrated skin looks healthier and more vibrant.
- Hair & Makeup: Aim for a natural look. Style your hair as you normally would for a professional setting. For makeup, a natural base is often recommended over heavy powder.
- Keep Accessories Minimal: Simple jewelry or accessories are best. The goal is for them to complement, not distract.
Getting in the Right Mindset
Feeling confident is the most important part of a great headshot.
- Trust the Process: I’m here to guide you through posing and expressions to capture your best angles. You don’t have to be a model!
- Relax Beforehand: On the day of the shoot, listen to your favorite music or do something that helps you relax. Don’t rush or squeeze the session into a packed schedule.
- Think About Your Goal: Consider the impression you want your headshot to convey—approachable, confident, creative? Keeping this in mind can help guide your expression.
- Practice in the Mirror: It might feel silly, but practicing a few expressions can help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

Company Composite Photo
Group company photos should not be complicated and hard to schedule!
We’ve come up with a simpler, less stressful way to get a group portrait with everyone. In the perfectly controlled environment of our studio, we can photograph your company in smaller groups. We’ll put together a composite that allows us to schedule each person according to their individual schedule.
This is ideal for businesses:
- who have locations far apart making it hard for everyone to be at the same place/same time
- with busy and varying schedules
- with 15 + people
By photographing each group individually, we can make sure each person looks their best and give everyone a fun and happy experience!
